DES MOINES, Iowa - In its
first home outdoor match of the season, the No. 45 Drake men's tennis team earned a
7-0 decision past Green Bay on Sunday (March 25) at the Roger Knapp Tennis
Center.
The Bulldogs staked themselves to an early 1-0 lead on the strength of a
sweep of the doubles competition.
Registering the clinching tally in doubles was the tandem of senior Cesar Bracho (Luque, Paraguay) and freshman Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia and
Herzegovina). The duo posted an
8-6 victory at the No. 2 position over Craig Cox and Erik Finkenbrink.
Sophomore Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) opened singles with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph
against Cox at the No. 5 hole, before Salibasic claimed Drake's third point of
the match downing Felix Goepper at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1.
Playing at No. 2, junior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) garnered the match-clinching point besting Michael
Tenzer, 6-4, 6-3.
The Bulldogs also received wins at the Nos. 1, 3 and 6 positions from
junior James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland), senior Jonathan Hadash (Lapid, Israel) and freshman Ben Mullis (Leicestershire, England).
Drake begins defense of its 2011 Missouri Valley Conference crown on Saturday (March 31) as the Bulldogs host Creighton at the Roger Knapp Tennis
Center. Match time is slated for
1:00 p.m.
