ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Missouri Valley Conference
has announced that Drake junior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) has been selected as the MVC
Men's Tennis Player of the Week. This marks the seventh weekly accolade
for a Drake men's tennis player this season and the fifth in Ghorbel's career,
including three this spring.
Ghorbel turned in a perfect 7-0 combined singles/doubles ledger this
past week, helping the then No. 45 Bulldogs to a 4-0 mark.
He earned two clinching points, including the match winner with a
6-4, 6-3 decision against Michael Tenzer of Green Bay last Sunday (March 25).
His come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Gaston Cuadranti
enabled Drake to garner a 4-3 road victory at SMU.
On the year, Ghorbel owns a team-high 40-10 combined singles/doubles
record, including a team-best 23-5 singles mark.
Ghorbel and the Bulldogs (17-2) open defense of their 2011 Missouri
Valley Conference title hosting Creighton on Saturday (March 31) at the Roger
Knapp Tennis Center. Match time is
slated for 10:00 a.m.
