Bulldogs Set School Record For Wins With 7-0 Triumph Over Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. - The Drake women's tennis pulled in lucky No. 21 establishing a new school-record with its 21st victory of the season, a 7-0 decision past Creighton on Sunday (April 22).

The win enabled the Bulldogs to finish their Missouri Valley Conference slate with a 5-2 mark, a record that will give Drake the No. 2 seed at next weekend's State Farm MVC Championship in Omaha, Neb.

"Even though we took a loss to Wichita State on Saturday this was a very good weekend for us," Bulldog head coach Paul Thomson commented.  "To finish one match better in the conference than last season, as well as set the all-time single season win mark for women's tennis, that's a pretty cool thing for these seniors especially. They are all excited and looking forward to redeeming themselves next weekend in Omaha after a tough first-round lost last year."

The two sides split decisions at the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles positions before the tandem of freshman Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and junior Ali Patterson (Overland Park, Kan.) registered an 8-5 victory at No. 2 over Mary McMullan and Kelsey Schmidt to provide Drake the tally.

The Bulldogs came out determined to notch the triumph in singles and their efforts showed sweeping all six contests.

Sophomore Klavdija Rebol (Kranj, Slovenia) started the effort with a 6-0, 6-1 victory past Analese Snyder at the No. 2 slot.

Turning in her team-best 55th win of the year at the top position was junior Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia), who bested Jennie Hartjes, 6-4, 6-0.

Earning the match-clinching point at No. 4 was senior Jessica Aguilera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia), who dispatched Elizabeth Vermillion, 6-3, 6-1.

The Bulldogs closed out the affair garnering victories at the Nos. 3, 5 and 6 slots, respectively, from senior Gabriela Demos (Chesterfield, Mo.), Boyd and senior Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo.).

Demos added Drake's fifth point with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph versus McMullan before Aragon downed Amanda Noonan at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4.  Closing the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 win over Taylor Koehrson at No. 5 was Boyd.

The Bulldogs open action at the State Farm MVC Championship on Friday (April 27) versus Northern Iowa at 1:00 p.m.
