OMAHA, Neb. - The Drake women's tennis team
garnered a pair of selections for the Missouri Valley Conference
Scholar-Athlete team, the league announced on Thursday (April 26).
Drake senior Gabriela Demos
(Chesterfield, Mo.) earned first-team accolades for the third-consecutive
season, while junior Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia) was tabbed to the Scholar-Athlete
All-Select squad.
Demos maintains a 3.8 grade-point
average in business. She owns a 45-25 combined singles/doubles mark
this year, including 22-5 in doubles during the dual campaign in helping Drake set
a school record for wins. Demos finished 5-2 in league doubles matches with
Krizman, while also sitting at 4-1 in singles play.
Boasting a 3.25 GPA in psychology, Krizman,
who will graduate in only three years, maintains a team-best 55-14 combined
singles/doubles mark this year, including 22-2 in singles during the dual
campaign. On the strength of a 25-match singles winning streak, she has
helped Drake set a school record for wins. Krizman went 5-2 in league doubles
matches with Demos, while also sitting at 5-2 in singles play.
To be eligible for
nominations to the MVC Scholar-Athlete teams, nominees must own a cumulative
GPA of 3.20 based on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or important reserve and have
played in at least 75 percent of its team's matches. Student-athletes also must
have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and
have completed at least one full academic year at their respective institution.
The second-seeded
Bulldogs (21-6) open play at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference
Championship on Friday (April 27) in Omaha, Neb., against seventh-seeded
Northern Iowa in a 1:00 p.m. match.
