2012-13 Schedule
DES
MOINES, Iowa - The Drake rowing team announced its
2012-13 schedule today. Coming off their first conference title in school
history, the Bulldogs will host three home races and participate in 12 races
this upcoming season.
"We're very excited about our upcoming 2012-13 rowing
season," Drake head coach Charlie
DiSilvestro said. "Our team had great results last year, but now it's time
to look ahead."
The fall season will start at home with the Head of the
Des Moines Regatta on Saturday, Sept. 29 and conclude at home with the
Creighton Dual on Saturday, Nov. 10. Sandwiched in between the two home races
will be trips to the Head of the Mississippi Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 7 in St.
Paul, Minn. and the Head of the Iowa Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 28 in Iowa City.
The spring season will start at the Wichita State dual on
Saturday, March 16, then will make their annual trip to Tulsa, Okla. for a dual
race on Friday, March 22. Drake will travel to Connecticut, Michigan and
Nebraska for their next three races before wrapping up the regular season with
a home race, the Drake Invitational, on Saturday, April 20.
Drake will look to defend its conference title at the
2013 MAAC championships in Princeton, N.J. on Saturday, April 27. The 2013
season will mark the first time that the MAAC champion will qualify for the
NCAA championships, which will be hosted in Lake Lanier, Ga. from Friday, May
31 to Sunday, June 2.
"This is an exciting time for women's rowing as this year
starts the automatic qualifier in rowing," DiSilvestro
said. "This means if we win our conference championship; we'll be going to the
NCAA's in May. While this is the end goal for us, we know we have a long hard
season in front of us with many great regattas. I know the team is excited to
meet all the challenges we face and so are the coaches."
The 2012-13 season will be DiSilvestro's 20th
season leading the Bulldog program. He was named the 2012 MAAC head coach of
the year.
