HOMEWOOD, Ill. - The Drake women's tennis team
closed out its weekend road swing on Saturday (Jan. 26) suffering a 6-1 setback
versus Bowling Green.
The Falcons gained
the early momentum in the contest with a sweep of the doubles competition to
assume a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Bowling Green followed by taking
five of the six singles matches to earn the triumph.
Drake garnered its
lone victory of the afternoon at the No. 4 position where freshman Evy Van Genechten (Antwerp,
Belgium) earned a 6-3, 6-2 win past Mary Hill.
Sophomore Nell
Boyd (Arlington
Heights, Ill.) and freshman Lea Kozulic (Varazdin, Croatia) nearly recorded victories at the
Nos. 1 and 3 slots for the Bulldogs but were unable to capture third-set
tiebreakers.
Drake returns home to
open its home schedule on Saturday (Feb. 2) as the Bulldogs host Gustavus
Adolphus and UMKC at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. Match times are slated for 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.,
respectively.
