MANHATTAN, Kan. - Senior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) fired a final-round 77 to highlight the efforts of the Drake men's golf team on Tuesday (Oct. 1) as it concluded the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate hosted by Kansas State with an eighth-place finish (324-315-335=974).
Ohl was the highest Bulldog on the final leader board, carding a 54-hole ledger of 235 (80-78-77), earning a 21st-place effort.
“Matt (Ohl) and Dane (Worley) really hit the ball well today, but as a team we struggled with our putting and the numbers reflected that,” Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented.
Junior Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) posted a 78 over the final 18 holes to record a 238 (85-75-78) scorecard and a 28th-place showing.
Freshmen Brady Richardson (Tulsa, Okla.) and Karter Smith (Detroit Lakes, Minn.), along with sophomore Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) rounded out the scoring efforts for Drake. The trio registered tournament totals of 242 (76-77-89=242/33rd), 259 (83-85-91=259/50th) and 273 (89-90-94=273/53rd), respectively.
Competing as an individual, redshirt junior Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) fired a 54-hole score of 248 (83-78-87), finishing in 44th place.
Drake returns to the golf course in its next-to-last tournament of the fall when the Bulldogs visit Kansas City, Mo., for the Bill Ross Intercollegiate (Oct. 14-15).
