KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Freshman Arianna Gastelum (Chula Vista, Calif.) highlighted the final-round effort of the Drake women's golf team at the UMKC Fall Invitational on Tuesday (Oct. 1) firing a career-low 75, as the Bulldogs finished sixth with a 947 (317-313-315) total.

“We didn't get the round we hoped for today, but the effort was there," commented Drake head coach Leanne Smith. “Sarah (Browning) and Arianna (Gastelum) had a couple of good rounds for us after struggling the first rounds.  We have a lot of positives to build on.  I can see the progress we have made, even though the scores aren't quite reflecting it yet.”

Redshirt sophomore Kimmy Askelson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was the Bulldogs' top finisher concluding her tournament tied for 18th posting a 54-hole mark of 236 (78-76-82).

Junior Danielle Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.), Gastelum, senior Hadley Jennings (Trenton, Mo.) and freshman Sarah Browning (Midhurst, Ontario) rounded out the scoring efforts for Drake as the quartet registered tournament totals of 239 (79-80-80=239/T-23rd), 240 (83-80-75=240/27th), 241 (80-77-84=241/T-28th) and 244 (80-86-78=244/35th), respectively.

Participating as individuals for the Bulldogs were junior Ashley Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.) and sophomore Katie Clausen (Hinton, Iowa). They recorded 54-hole marks of 252 (83-87-82=252/T-41st) and 263 (86-92-85=263/T-51st).

A nearly two-week layoff awaits Drake before the Bulldogs visit Springfield, Mo., for the Payne Stewart Memorial (Oct. 14-15) hosted by Missouri State.
