Volleyball Drops Three-Set Match To Indiana State

DES MOINES, Iowa – Morgan Dall connected for a match-high 13 kills as the Indiana State Sycamores swept the Drake Bulldogs, 3-0, on Friday night at the Knapp Center.

Indiana State (8-11, 2-6 MVC) finished with a .340 hitting percentage and 45 kills, while winning 25-14, 25-20 and 25-17 tonight. Drake (2-18, 0-8 MVC) was led by junior Amanda Platte's (Mount Vernon, Iowa) team-high eight kills, while freshman Tegan LaBerge (Maple Grove, Minn.) added seven kills along with a team-high three blocks. Fellow freshman Capris Quaites (Omaha, Neb.) came off the bench to smash seven kills with zero attacks, while hitting a team-high .438.

The Sycamores jumped out to an 8-2 lead in set one and forced the Bulldogs to call their first timeout of the night. Indiana State pulled away after the break taking the opening frame, 25-14, behind 15 kills and just two attack errors. Dall and Platte led their respective clubs with five kills.

Drake raced out a quick 5-2 lead in set two and forced Indiana State to burn its first timeout of the match. Following the timeout the set was tightly contested with 11 score ties and six lead changes. The teams traded points as neither side held a lead greater than two points until Dall's service ace extended the Sycamores lead to 23-20. Drake quickly used its final timeout, but it wasn't enough as Indiana State closed the set out with consecutive kills to win 25-20.

Indiana State never trailed in set three taking a 9-5 lead, which forced Drake to call its first timeout of the frame. The Sycamores continued to build their lead going up 14-7 as the Bulldogs took their final timeout of the evening. It was all Indiana State after the timeout as it went on for the 25-17 win.

Freshman Samantha Meyers (Grundy Center, Iowa) made her first career start at the libero position for Drake finishing with 8 digs, while sophomore Rebecca Brown (Bentonville, Ark.) guided the Bulldogs offense with 23 assists.
