DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University volleyball team was swept Sunday by Evansville University by scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-23 at the Knapp Center.

Drake's (2-24, 0-14 MVC) offensive attack was spread between sophomore Rebecca Brown (Bentonville, Ark.), freshman Makena Schoene (Seattle, Wash.), freshman Meredith Moore (Bloomington, Ill.), and junior Amanda Platte (Mount Vernon, Iowa) all recording four kills each. Brown added 22 assists, while senior Sarah Madden (Van Meter, Iowa) tallied a team-high 12 digs.

Evansville (9-17, 4-11 MVC) finished with three players recording double-digit kills led by Ashley Ring with 14, while Emma Roberson had 12 and Lauren Seyller finished with 11. The Purple Aces' libero, Katie Klages, combatted the Drake attack with a match-high 19 digs.

In a first set that featured two ties and two lead changes, Evansville jumped out to an 8-3 lead, which forced the first Drake timeout of the match. The Bulldogs could not climb back from their deficit, and dropped the first set by a score of 25-17. The Purple Aces hit .375 and stymied the Drake attack as the Bulldogs could only muster a .062 hitting percentage. 

The second set did not prove to be kinder to the Bulldogs as their hitting struggles continued finishing at -.077, while Evansville's hitting percentage increased to a .400 clip. The Purple Aces cruised to a 25-12 win.

After trailing for the majority of the third set, Drake took a 20-18 lead forcing an Evansville timeout after the Bulldogs went on top, 22-20. The Purple Aces took the next two points knotting the score at 22-22, forcing a timeout by Drake. Evansville scored three of the last four points of the match, taking the final set, 25-23. Drake had their best hitting performance in the final frame, recording a .184 percentage, while limiting Evansville to a .280 hitting percentage.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to face Indiana State this Friday, Nov. 15. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. CST.
