DES MOINES, Iowa - In a match that was not indicative of the final score, the Drake
men's tennis team withstood a feisty Green Bay (4-1) squad to post to 5-2
victory past the Phoenix on Sunday (Feb. 3) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (4-1) registered triumphs at the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles positions to pull
in an early 1-0 lead. Clinching the tally with an 8-6 win on
court No. 2 was the tandem of senior James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland) and junior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England), who
bested Rowan Isaaks and Michael Tenzer.
The margin increased
to 3-0 after singles victories from McKie and sophomore Ben Mullis (Leicestershire, England) at the
Nos. 1 and 5 slots, respectively.
Mullis dispatched
Isaaks at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1, before McKie recorded a 7-5, 6-4 decision versus
Erik Finkenbrink at No. 1.
Earning the clinching
tally at No. 6 was sophomore Grant
Tesmer (Lincoln, Neb.), who downed Howard Scott, 7-5, 6-1.
Goodman closed out
Drake's victory total with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Crag Cox at No. 3.
