ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Drake redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) and sophomore Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) garnered Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete accolades when the league announced its annual plaudits on Wednesday (May 15).
Leland pulled in first-team honors, while Worley received honorable mention recognition.
A native of Huxley, Iowa, Leland owns a 3.80 grade-point average in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology. He registered a 76.0 scoring average across 32 rounds this season, including a 76.2 average during the spring campaign. Leland posted a third-place finish at the MVC Championship and All-MVC accolades on the strength of a career-low 68 in the opening round. He had 15 rounds of 75 or lower this year.
A Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native, Worley maintains a 3.67 GPA in business. He recorded a team-best 75.3 scoring average for 22 rounds this season, including posting a 74.6 scoring average this spring. Worley turned in 13 rounds of 75 or lower this season, including 11 this spring. He tied for 14th at MVC Championship to earn top-18 flag honors.
To be eligible for nominations to the MVC Scholar-Athlete teams, nominees must own a cumulative GPA of 3.20 based on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or important reserve and have played in at least 75 percent of its team's matches. Student-athletes also must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and have completed at least one full academic year at their respective institution.
