DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake men's tennis team on the heels of its most-successful campaign in school history, finished 27th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national poll released on Tuesday (May 28).
“This group, led by seniors Ryan Drake, Jean Erasmus, Anis Ghorbel and James McKie, accomplished so much this season and achieved so many milestones for Drake tennis: highest ranking (No. 16), highest-ranked opponent defeated (No. 14) and winning first match in NCAA tournament play,” Drake head coach Davidson Kozlowski commented. “What a fitting way for them to go out as the highest-rated Drake team to end a season at No. 27. Special thanks need to be given to those four seniors who were unranked as a team as freshmen and are leaving after putting Drake tennis back on the national map.”
The final tabulation is the highest year-end ranking for the Bulldogs in program history.
Drake registered a school-record 25-4 ledger this past season, including posting the Bulldogs' first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, 4-1 over No. 34 TCU, on May 10 in Los Angeles, Calif.
The three-time defending Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions, Drake returns three starters and five letterwinners for the upcoming 2013 fall campaign.
