Bulldogs Persevere Through Day One Of Ram Master Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Junior Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) fired back-to-back rounds of 74 to lead the Drake men's golf team to a 602 (312-290) scorecard after 36 holes at the Ram Master Invitational on Monday (Sept. 16) at the Fort Collins Country Club.

Worley is tied for 47th through two rounds with a 148 total.

“We got off to a slow start this morning battling through a light rain at first and we were never really able to regroup,” Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented. “We really didn't play great as a team, but we were able to have a great bounce back second round (290).  Matt (Ohl) and Brady (Richardson) both turned in good second rounds and Dane (Worley) was consistent both rounds.”

Freshman Brady Richardson (Tulsa, Okla.) had his opening-round 72 wiped off the books when he was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. He persevered through the adversity bouncing back during the second round to fire a 72.

After carding an opening-round 79, freshman Karter Smith (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) came back in the second round with a 72 to stand tied for 65th with a 151 total.

Seniors Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) and Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) added 154 (82-72) and 156 (77-79) scorecards, respectively, to sit in 78th and 79th places.

“The disqualification obviously hurt, but hopefully we can come back tomorrow and turn in a good final round,” said Lewis.

The Ram Master Invitational concludes on Tuesday (Sept. 17) with play swinging into action with tees times beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT.

DRAKE RESULTS: Dane Worley (74-74=148/T-47th), Karter Smith (79-72=151/T-65th), Matt Ohl (82-72=154/78th), Connor Steele (77-79=156/T-79th) and Brady Richardson (DQ-72=72/84th).
