FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Led by junior
Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), three Bulldogs carded final rounds of 75 or lower leading the Drake men's golf team to a 54-hole score of 903 (312-290-301) at the Ram Master Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 17) at the Fort Collins Country Club.
Sparked by a Drake tournament-low score of 72, Worley garnered a team-best 38th-place showing on the strength of a tournament total of 220 (74-74-72).
"Dane (Worley) played a decent round today, he had double on his first hole and then another double towards the end, but other than that he was solid," Bulldog head coach Matt Lewis commented. "The rest of the guys struggled, as we didn't play particularly well. I was hoping for a good day, but it just didn't happen, although the effort was there."
Senior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) and freshman Brady Richardson (Tulsa, Okla.) each notched rounds of 75 over the final 18 holes to spark Drake. Ohl concluded his 54 holes with a 229 (82-72-75) scorecard.
Freshman Karter Smith (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and senior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) entered the clubhouse with tournament efforts of 232 (79-72-81) and 235 (77-79-79), respectively, after shooting 81 and 79 during the final round on Tuesday.
“We have two weeks off before Kansas State so we have some time to work on our games and hopefully correct our mistakes,” said Lewis. “ I'm looking forward to getting back at it soon.”
Drake returns to action on Sept. 30 as the Bulldogs visit Manhattan, Kan., for the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate (Sept. 30-Oct. 1).
