DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake men's soccer team was unable to convert on its scoring opportunities and No. 14 Tulsa (1-1) capitalized scoring three unanswered tallies en route to handing the Bulldogs (0-2) a 3-0 setback on Sunday (Sept. 1) at the Cownie Soccer Complex.

Sophomore Danton Irelan (Ottumwa, Iowa/Ottumwa) nearly provided the Bulldogs the early advantage one minute into play as his shot inside the six-yard box was covered up by Tulsa goalkeeper Cody Mumma for the save.

The Golden Hurricane captured a 1-0 lead when Tony Rocha redirected a shot off the post from Cristian Mata at the 16:29 mark.

Kyle Cumings extended Tulsa's margin to 2-0 after scoring an unassisted tally in the 35th minute (34:19).

The Golden Hurricane outshot Drake in the initial stanza, 12-6, despite the Bulldogs getting the better of shots on goal, 4-3.

Drake picked up the offensive pace over the final 45 minutes and was barely edged out in shots, 7-6.

Only a team save by Tulsa prevented senior Garrett Crall (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) from getting the Bulldogs on the scoreboard at the 69:17 mark.

The Golden Hurricane tacked on their final tally in the affair when Bryce Follensbee headed in a corner kick by Ray Saari in the 73rd minute (72:02).

The game was a physical affair as 10 fouls were whistled on each side and six yellow yards issued.

Cumings led all players with a game-high four shots for Tulsa, which posted a 19-12 margin in shots. Crall and senior Addison Eck (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) paced Drake with three shots apiece.

Senior Rich Gallagher (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) registered four saves for the Bulldogs, while Mumma made a game-best five stops for the Golden Hurricane.

Drake returns to action on Friday (Sept. 6) as the Bulldogs travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to compete in the Panther Invitational.  Drake will battle Milwaukee in a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
