Box Score PEORIA, Ill. – The Drake volleyball team lost its match at Bradley on Sunday afternoon as the Braves won 25-20, 25-12 and 25-23.
Drake (2-11, 0-2 MVC) was led by junior Amanda Platte's (Mount Vernon, Iowa) 12 kills, while freshman Tegan LaBerge (Maple Grove, Minn.) had five kills, two digs and one block. Platte added six digs and two blocks.
Bradley (7-3, 1-0 MVC) was paced by Alise Tupuritis, who finished with a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. She added two service aces and two blocks as the Braves recorded seven team aces and a .248 hitting percentage. Kristi Chynoweth recorded 10 kills for Bradley.
Platte's kill gave the Bulldogs a 10-6 lead in set one, but the Braves rallied to take a 15-13 lead and forced a Drake timeout. Out of the timeout, the teams traded points and an attack error by Allie Falter cut Drake's deficit to 20-17 and Bradley used its first timeout. Bradley ripped off three straight points after its timeout and forced Drake to burn its final timeout. After the final stoppage the Braves went on to win the set, 25-20.
Set two was all Bradley as they cruised to a 25-12 win behind 11 kills and just two attack errors. Drake's offensive attack struggled finishing with just six kills and nine attack errors.
Bradley raced out to a 5-0 advantage in set three before Drake freshman Katie Allen (Mokena, Ill.) blasted a kill to end the scoring run. The rest of the set stayed close as Drake battled back to tie the score at 19-19 after a kill by Platte. Another kill by Platte gave the Bulldogs a 23-22 lead, but Bradley answered with three straight points to close out the win at 25-22.
Drake returns to the Knapp Center this Wednesday night against Nebraska Omaha at 7 p.m., before hosting Wichita State and Missouri State Friday and Saturday, respectively. First serve for each weekend match is set for 7 p.m.
