DES MOINES, Iowa - On the strength of four unanswered singles victories, Milwaukee (1-0) edged Drake, 5-2, in women tennis action on Sunday (Jan. 26) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs (0-1) and Panthers split decisions on the Nos. 1 and 2 courts before Milwaukee collected the doubles tally with a 7-5 decision at No. 3.

Sophomore Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.) evened the affair at one for Drake in singles registering a 6-2, 6-2 triumph past Chelsea Bailey on court No. 2.

Sophomore Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) extended the Bulldogs' advantage to 2-1 dispatching Hayley Marshall at the No. 3 position, 6-2, 6-2.

Milwaukee followed with four unanswered victories to clinch the match and spoil Drake's spring debut.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (Feb. 1) hosting North Dakota in a 10:00 a.m. contest at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
