DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball team welcomed members of the media to its annual media day on Wednesday (Oct. 15) afternoon at the Knapp Center.
Media day started with head coach Jennie Baranczyk addressing the media in the Paul F. Morrison room. Baranczyk, who is set to start her third season at the helm of the program, shared her and the team's excitement for the upcoming season, highlighting the program's returning players as well as the incoming class for the 2014-15 season.
“The team is hungry and having fun already and we haven't even played a game yet,” said Baranczyk. “We have amazing leadership led by an incredible senior class that has the Missouri Valley Conference player of the year in Kyndal Clark (Webb City, Mo.). We also have some great freshmen that are now sophomores in Caitlin Ingle (Runnells, Iowa) and Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.). Lizzy was the MVC freshman of the year and Caitlin and Lizzy were on the MVC all-freshman team.”
“Really looking forward to some big things,” Baranczyk said. “I love our incoming class. Overall we will still be young, but we have some great experience in that youth. I'm really excited for the upcoming season.”
Drake continues to practice as it moves towards Nov. 9 when it hosts Upper Iowa in an exhibition contest at 2:05 p.m. before opening the 2014-15 campaign with a home contest against South Dakota on Nov. 14 at 7:05 p.m.
