LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Drake University rowing team competed against some of the top collegiate and club programs in the nation at the 2014 Jayhawk Jamboree hosted by the University of Kansas on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 18).
The team's best finish of the day came from its novice 8 “A” boat, which placed seventh with a time of 15:50.56. The novice 8 “B” boat finished in 11th place with a time of 17.02.72. In the team's first race of the day, the varsity 8 boat placed 14th with a time of 15:00.37.
“The team rowed well and got better through the day,” said head coach Charlie DiSilvestro. “We feel good about our racing and I am proud of how they competed and supported each other all day. We did some good things, and saw some things we need to work on Monday when we get back on the water.”
The varsity 4 “A” boat placed 20th with a time of 16:24.05, while the varsity 4 “B” was 22nd at 17.02.97. The novice 4 “A” took eighth place with a time of 17.32.85, while the novice 4 “B” was 11th with a time of 18.14.26 in their race.
Home duals scheduled against Grand Valley State on Nov. 1 and the Creighton Blue Jays on Nov. 8 close out the fall campaign for the Bulldogs.
