CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team swept Drake University, 3-0, on Saturday (Oct. 25) night at the McLeod Center. UNI won by scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-23 to move to 14-8 and 8-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The loss drops Drake to 9-12 and 1-9 in the MVC.

Freshman Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) smashed a team-high 13 kills, while senior Amanda Platte (Mount Vernon, Iowa) finished with eight kills, four digs and two blocks for the Bulldogs. Inderski added 11 digs to record her seventh career double-double. Sophomore Chandelle Davidson (Gretna, Neb.) tallied her fifth-consecutive double-double of the season with 13 assists and 14 digs.

Set one was back-and-forth as the teams traded points until UNI went up 20-17 after an attack error.  A kill by Platte later trimmed the Bulldogs' deficit to 22-19, but the Panthers held off the rally attempt as they took the frame, 25-21.

Drake found itself in an early 11-4 hole in the second set as the Bulldogs used a timeout. However, out of the break it was all UNI as the Panthers cruised to a 25-13 second set victory.

The Bulldogs played well in the third set as they pulled even with the Panthers at 21-21. This time it was the Panthers who called timeout. After the timeout, UNI scored three-straight points to hold match point, but Drake answered with two-straight points to force another timeout by the Panthers. However, the rally attempt fell short as a kill by Kyla Haneline after the timeout clinched the match for UNI.

Drake returns to the Knapp Center to host Wichita State on Oct. 31 and Missouri State on Nov. 1. First serve for each match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
