Volleyball Drops Match To Illinois State

Box Score

DES MOINES, Iowa – Coming off clinching its first Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title since the 1997 season with its road win at UNI on Saturday (Nov. 15) night, the Illinois State Redbirds swept the Drake University volleyball team, 3-0, on Sunday, Nov. 16 at the Knapp Center.

Illinois State won by scores of 25-15, 26-24 and 25-13 to improve to 22-5 overall and to a perfect 16-0 in MVC play. The loss moves Drake to 11-16 and 3-13 in the MVC.

Following the conclusion of the match, Drake held a ceremony on the Knapp Center court for its three-member senior class of Halli Meyer (Bettendorf, Iowa), Meredith Moore (Bloomington, Ill.) and Amanda Platte (Mount Vernon, Iowa), to recognize each senior for their contributions to the program and to the university.

Platte finished with four kills, three digs, two blocks and one assist while Meyer tallied a one dig in their final home matches. Moore played in one set for the Bulldogs.

“I can't thank Amanda, Halli and Meredith enough for the commitment they have made to Drake and this program,” said head coach Darrin McBroom. “Even through the tough times to get to this point, they have each helped get the program to really start to take off in the direction we want. It was great to recognize them for everything today.”

Sophomore Nicole Woods (St. Charles, Ill.) paced Drake with 11 kills off the bench. Sophomore setter Chandelle Davidson (Gretna, Neb.) registered her eighth career double-double by dishing out 17 assists along with recording 10 digs.

Outside hitters Makena Schoene (Seattle, Wash.) and Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) had nine and eight kills, respectively. The pair each chipped in two blocks and Inderski just missed a double-double as she collected 10 digs.

Three Redbirds recorded double-digit kills led by Ashley Rosch and Jaelyn Kenne as they each had 11 and Emily Schneider finished with 10. Kaitlyn Early dished out a match-high 40 assists.

Drake closes the 2014 campaign with road contests at Loyola (Nov. 21) and Bradley (Nov. 22) next weekend. Both matches have a 7 p.m. start time.
