DES MOINES, Iowa - In come-from-behind fashion, the Drake men's tennis team registered a 5-1 triumph past Green Bay (3-3) in the first of two matches for the 42nd-rated Bulldogs (3-3) on Friday (Feb. 7) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Phoenix stole the early momentum in the affair garnering victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles spots to assume a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Ben Lott (Newcastle, England) evened the match at one for Drake in singles besting Howard Scott at the No. 2 position, 6-0, 6-4.
Placing the Bulldogs ahead for good at No. 5 was junior Ravi Patel (London, England), who dispatched Rowan Isaaks, 6-1, 6-2.
After winning the first set in his encounter with Michael Tenzer at No. 1, junior Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina) overcame a 6-2 deficit in the second-set tiebreaker en route to collecting a 6-2, 6-5 (9) victory.
Earning the deciding tally in the match on court No. 4 was junior Matt Frost (Cambridge, England). Frost posted a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 decision past Joey Leto.
Within seconds, junior Ben Mullis (Leicestershire, England) completed the contest for Drake with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jorge Gonzalez Soler at the No. 6 position.
Senior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) was leading his tilt versus Leo Gomez Islinger at No. 3, 6-3, 2-6, 2-0 when match play was halted.
The Bulldogs close out their homestand hosting UMKC this evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
