LINCOLN, Neb. - The Drake women's tennis team overcame a determined challenge from a talented Colorado State (1-2) squad en route to collecting a 7-0 victory on Saturday (March 1).

The Bulldogs (7-1) extended their winning streak seven with the triumph, including victories in their last three matches away from the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

“This was not a 7-0 match today,” Drake head coach Sadhaf Pervez commented. “Colorado State made us fight for each match today and the score could have gone in its favor. I am pleased that the girls stayed composed and stayed with their game plan.”

Each side registered a triumph in doubles before the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point and a 1-0 lead following an 8-6 triumph by junior Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.) over Mollie Cooper and Lauren Pick at No. 2.

Drake was forced to work for every point in singles play as three of the six matches went three sets.

Sophomore Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.) gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead dispatching Celine Voss at the No. 6 position, 6-0, 6-2.

Sophomore Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) pushed the advantage to 3-0 besting Cooper on the No. 3 court, 6-1, 6-3.

Garnering the match-clinching tally at No. 4 was Boyd, who downed Pick, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

The Bulldogs also were the beneficiaries of three-set victories at the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 positions, respectively, courtesy of senior Klavdija Rebol (Kranj, Slovenia), Ante and sophomore Lea Kozulic (Verazdin, Croatia).

Drake returns to action on Wednesday (March 5) hosting Iowa at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. Match time for the in-state showdown is slated for 3:00 p.m.
