DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake women's tennis team opened its Missouri Valley Conference slate registering a come-from-behind 6-1 triumph past Northern Iowa (9-8, 0-1 MVC) on Sunday (March 30) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Panthers assumed an early 1-0 advantage in the affair claiming victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions to garner the doubles point.

The Drake tandem of sophomore Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) and senior Klavdija Rebol (Kranj, Slovenia) accounted for the Bulldogs' triumph in doubles, besting Krissy Lankelma and Sydney Wolfe on the No. 3 court, 8-5.

Beginning Drake's comeback in the affair was sophomore Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.), who opened singles dispatching Wolfe at the No. 5 slot, 6-2, 6-2.

The Bulldogs (12-3, 1-0 MVC) went ahead to stay on the strength of junior Nell Boyd's (Arlington Heights, Ill.) 6-1, 6-1 triumph past Astrid Santos at the No. 4 position.

Extending Drake's advantage to 3-1 was Johnson, who bested Elvira Lopez at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2.

Garnering the match-clinching point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lankelma on the No. 6 court was sophomore Lea Kozulic (Varazdin, Croatia).

Sophomore Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.) and Rebol capped the Bulldogs' win total with triumphs at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, respectively.

Rebol posted a 6-1, 7-6 (2) decision past Erica Medlin at No. 2, before Ante closed the match earning a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 win over Jieke Stroobant at the No. 1 slot.

The victory over the Panthers marked the first for Drake this season when dropping the doubles point.

The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday (April 5) with a 1:00 p.m. tilt at Evansville.
