Box Score CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois handed the Drake University volleyball team a 3-0 defeat on Friday evening to take the regular-season series between the Salukis and the Bulldogs. SIU won the match by set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-20.
The Bulldogs (13-14, 4-6 MVC) were led by seven kills apiece from sophomore Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) and Makena Schoene (Seattle, Wash.). Inderski also added 10 digs for a double-double while Grace Schofield (Mundelein, Ill.) had 13 digs. Katie Allen (Mokena, Ill.) matched a season high with six kills in the loss.
SIU (15-7, 6-3 MVC) was paced by 14 kills on 26 attempts with 16 digs from Andrea Estrada as the Salukis hit .220 in the win. SIU also held a 10-5 advantage in blocks.
The first set was tied early at 6-6 until a 5-0 SIU run gave the home team an early lead that would later balloon into the 10-point, 25-15 final tally.
The Bulldogs led early in the second set until SIU took its first lead at 10-9. Drake stayed within two points for much of the set until the Salukis closed the frame on a 6-0 run to win, 25-18.
Drake never led in the final set, but pulled within a point, 17-16, late in the match but could not push past SIU in dropping the set, 25-20.
The team plays the last of four-straight road games on Saturday evening at Evansville with first serve set for 6 p.m. Earlier this season, the Bulldogs defeated the Purple Aces, 3-0, in Des Moines.
