Inderski and Schofield Record Double-Doubles, But Drake Volleyball Falls At Evansville, 3-1

Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Double-doubles from sophomore Kyla Inderski  (Urbandale, Iowa) and Grace Schofield  (Mundelein, Ill.) were not enough to power the Drake University volleyball team past Evansville as the Purple Aces downed the Bulldogs, 3-1.

Evansville (8-16, 2-8 MVC) won the match by set scores of 25-22, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-18. Miranda Genesis, the Missouri Valley Conference leader in kills, had 28 kills in the winning effort.

Drake (13-15, 4-7 MVC) got its two double-doubles courtesy of 13 kills and 14 digs from Inderski and 12 kills plus 14 digs from Schofield. Makena Schoene (Seattle, Wash.) added 13 kills on 30 attempts while Chandelle Davidson (Gretna, Neb.) had a season-high 31 assists.

The Bulldogs fell behind early in the opening set, 8-1, but a 10-4 run briefly pulled them back within a point at 12-11. The set continued in nip-and-tuck fashion until Drake briefly took the lead, 20-19, on an Inderski kill. However, Evansville answered the charge with 6-2 run to close the set and take a 1-0 lead.

Drake opened the second set with a 10-6 lead but could not hold that momentum as Evansville scored 19 of the next 25 points in the match to run away with the 25-16 win.

The Bulldogs took another 10-6 lead in the third set and held that lead until Evansville briefly tied the set, 22-22. Kills from Inderski and Schofield held off the Aces to give the Bulldogs the set, 25-23, and force a fourth set.

Evansville jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the fourth set and maintained a lead of six or more points for the remainder of the final set to put away the Bulldogs 25-18.

The loss capped a span of four-straight MVC road games for the Bulldogs. The team returns to its home court next weekend for a pair of matches against Indiana State and Illinois State. The Friday, Oct. 30, match against Indiana State is set for a 7 p.m. start.
