SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Drake University women's tennis team will play for three of the tournament's 10 flight champions on Sunday for the final day of the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships at the Velasco Tennis Center.
Sophomore Summer Brills registered another dominating performance as she defeated Evansville's Andjela Brguljan, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the Flight 3 Singles title match.
Sophomore Adrienne Jensen pulled off a three-set victory in her Flight 2 Singles semifinal against Illinois State's, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-4.
Senior Maddie Johnson fell in the Flight 1 Singles fifth-place match to Evansville's Marina Moreno, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Jensen and Johnson wrapped up Saturday with a 8-7 (2) victory over Missouri State's Turudija/Poile to advance to the Flight 1 Doubles championship match.
Brills will play Wichita State's Tanaporn Thongsing in the Flight 3 Singles championship match, while Jensen will face off against Wichita's Giulia Guidetti in the Flight 2 Singles title match on Sunday. Also on Sunday, Mariel Ante and Tess Herder, who are the five-seed, will begin play at the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., as they will open the pre-qualifying draw against Florida State's Borthwick/Noi.
