DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men's golf team concluded play at the inaugural Zach Johnson Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in fifth place.
The Bulldogs recorded their best round of the 54-hole event on Tuesday with a 296, finishing with a score of 894 (301-297-296). MVC foes Northern Iowa and Bradley finished first and second, respectively. UNI registered an 874 (301-285-288), while Bradley totaled 881 (294-297-290). Oral Roberts finished in third with a 882 (300-296-286) as South Dakota took home fourth-place with a score of 887 (309-286-292).
Individually, Drew Ison shot one-over par to finish tied for 10th with a score of 220 (74-74-72). Blake Huser shot a season-low 73 (+2) for a total score of 223 (76-74-73), good for 16th place. Jack Kennedy registered a total score of 226 (75-73-78), while fellow freshman Tommi Avant posted his third straight 76, totaling 228 (76-76-76). Matt Lavery bounced back from a tough first day by firing a 75 to close out the two-day event with a 236 (80-81-75).
Playing as individuals, Arjun Reddy, Will McDonald, Karter Smith finished with scores of 231 (81-75-75), 241 (79-82-80) and 263 (85-92-86), respectively
The Bulldogs head to Kansas City, Mo. on Monday, Oct. 12 for the Bill Ross Invitational, hosted by UMKC.
