STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State Cowgirls knocked off the Drake women's soccer team, 3-0, Wednesday night at Cowgirl Stadium in a midweek non-conference game for Drake.

Oklahoma State (6-6-2) struck early in the match as Courtney Dike scored at the 9:11 mark as the Cowgirls went to halftime with a 1-0 lead. Drake (5-8) was limited to just three shots in the opening half.

“We defended so well for stretches tonight but let ourselves down with three goals that we should have dealt with,” said Drake head coach Lindsey Horner. “Oklahoma State surely had the run of play but we were able to build our possession out of the back and string some passes together to get in the final third.”

The Cowgirls added a pair of second half goals to put the game out of reach to claim the non-conference win. Drake had more scoring opportunities in the final half registering six shots. Freshman Alyssa Brand (Skokie, Ill.) led the Bulldogs with a game-high five shots, including one on goal.

“We've been a team that has been so dangerous this season in the final third, but tonight we lacked a bit of composure and settled for our first option,” Horner said. “Sarah Grace Nicholson (Overland Park, Kan.) and Linda Fiorito (Overland Park, Kan.) were fantastic for us in the back and Rhian Pritchard (Prairie Village, Kan.) had her moments on the ball in the second half.”

Junior midfielder Rebecca Rodgers (Peotone, Ill.), who is tied with Brand for the team lead in goals with five, missed the game against the Cowgirls.

Drake returns to Missouri Valley Conference action playing at Evansville on Oct. 10 with first kick against the Purple Aces set for 6 p.m.

“We look forward to getting Rebecca back for Saturday night and competing for three more MVC points,” Horner commented on her team's return to league play in Evansville, Ind. against the Purple Aces.
