Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Paced by 15 kills from All-American Lily Johnson, Missouri State defeated the Drake University volleyball team, 3-0, in Drake's final road game of the 2015 season.
The Bears claimed the match by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-16.
Drake (14-18, 5-10 MVC) was led by seven kills from Grace Schofield (Mundelein, Ill.) and five each from Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa) and Taylor Zant (Libertyville, Ill.). Drake's offense was handcuffed by errors as the Bulldogs committed 19 attacking errors in the three sets.
In addition to Johnson's 15 kills, Lynsey Wright added 13 kills on 22 attempts as MSU (18-9, 9-5 MVC) hit .293 on its home court.
Drake led early in the first set, but an 8-5 MSU run reversed that trend. Drake remained close until MSU opened up a 20-15 advantage to take the opening set, 25-19.
The Bulldogs led for a point in the second set and tied the frame twice, but an 8-3 MSU run gave the Bears enough separation to pull away for a 25-18 win. The third set played out in much the same fashion with MSU opening the set with a 9-1 lead and Drake never pulling within less than four points for the remainder of the set to take a 25-16 victory.
The Bulldogs host a single match this upcoming week when they host in-state rival UNI on Nov. 14. First serve against the Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Knapp Center.
