SANTEE, Calif. – The Drake University men's golf team finished the first day of its 2015 season opener at the Western Illinois Carlton Oaks Invitational in sixth place with a team score of 646. Redshirt senior Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) led Drake with a 36-hole score of 159 that has Leland tied for 15th.
"The guys were dealing with some rust on a very challenging course," said Drake head coach Matt Lewis. "We were disappointed with our play today but our focus is to forget about today and do our best tomorrow. I am excited to see how the guys rebound in round three."
Junior Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Drew Ison (Edmond, Okla.) are next on the scoreboard in 20th and t-21st with scores of 161 and 162, respectively.
Freshman Matt Lavery (Peoria, Ill.) and senior Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) are just a few spots back on the board in with scores of 164 (t-26th) and 165 (t-28th), respectively.
The final round of the WIU Carlton Oaks Invitational at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club gets underway for Drake with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. PST on Tuesday (Feb. 10) morning.
