MONTEREY BAY, Calif. – Drake University women's golf team was nearly 20 strokes better in the second round of the Monterey Bay Invitational on Tuesday (March 16) as the Bulldogs shot a 326 for a total of 671 (345-326) through 36 holes.
The Bulldogs' strong performance in the second day put them one shot behind fifth-place Western Illinois (329-331-670). Towson has held onto the lead through 36 holes with a score of 633 (315-318), but the Tigers have Seattle right on their heels with a score of 635 (326-309).
Individually, Madison Glennie (Clearwater, Fla.) jumped up into the top 15 with her round of 77, which put her tied for 13th (85-77-162) to lead the Bulldogs.
“Madison played really well for us today and rallied after a couple unfortunate holes on the back nine with four pars coming in” said Drake head coach Leanne Smith.
Sarah Browning (Midhurst, Ontario) stayed in the top 25 with a second round score of 81 and is tied for 21st (85-81-167), while Danielle Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.)carded an 83 for a total of 169 (86-83) and is tied for 27th. Katie Clausen (Hinton, Iowa) and Brooke Miller (Pomona, Calif.) rounded out the Bulldogs' effort on the day with an 85 and 90, respectively.
"We played better today, still had too many big numbers and struggled with our short games. I am looking forward to our last round,” said Smith.
The Bulldogs will wrap up the Monterey Bay Invitational on Tuesday with tee times set for 8:30 a.m.
