OMAHA, Neb. – The Drake women's golf team took home the team title at the Stampede at the Creek event on Tuesday afternoon in its final event before the MVC Championship next week.
The Bulldogs won the 10-team tournament by four strokes over host institution Omaha with a final score of 906 (295-309-302). The victory marked the first outright team title for the Bulldogs since the Battle at Boulder Creek in February of 2020.
Drake had a trio of competitors finish inside the top-10 on the leaderboard and were led by
Amber Henson. The senior tallied a solo third place result after carding a 54-hole total of 225 (70-83-72). Henson, along with her teammate
Kate Connolly, led the field in scoring average on the par-3's at 2.92 and she was second in the field in par-4 scoring average at 4.17.
Following Henson on the leaderboard were
Julie Huggins and
Rylee Heryford. Huggins tied for fifth firing a total score of 228 (77-75-76), while Heryford tied for 10th one stroke behind at 229 (78-75-76). For Heryford, this marked the first top-10 finish of her career. It was the fifth career top-10 result for Huggins.
Finishing just outside of the top-15 was
Erika Holmberg. The Bettendorf, Iowa native placed T16 and carded a final total of 232 (75-79-78) and tied for eighth in the field with five birdies across the tournament.
Completing the Bulldog lineup was Connolly and freshman
Annabelle Bush. Connolly posted rounds of 74-80-80 for her 23rd place finish at 234. Meanwhile, Bush ended in 36th at 238 (76-83-79).
Alexis Reyes, who competed as an individual, tied for 50th at 249 (79-87-83).
Omaha's Katie Ruge won individual medalist honors shooting a 54-hole total of 220 (69-78-73).
The Bulldogs will now head to the MVC Championship, which will be held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, April 19-21.
