BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Drake University men's golf team finished in 16th-place with a 54-hole mark of 891 (289-305-297) at the NYX Hoosier Invitational on Sunday, hosted by Indiana.

The Bulldogs were just one shot from tying for 15th-place with MVC foe Evansville, who scored an 890 (305-292-293).

Individually, Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) paced the Bulldogs in the final round with a team-best 72 and finished the three-round event with a total of 236 (78-86-72). Freshman Drew Ison (Edmond, Okla.) was Drake's highest finisher, tying for 22nd-place with a score of 218 (68-73-77). Senior Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was just one shot back from Ison, registering a 219 (70-76-73) and finished tied for 30th. Fellow senior Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) shot his second 75 of the tournament to finish with a score of 230 (80-75-75), while freshman Matt Lavery (Periora, Ill.) rounded out the Bulldogs' effort with a 234 (73-81-80).

“We played great today for the first 14 holes, and were one-under. We had the low round of the day going and were in about 9th place, but fell apart the final four holes which led to a disappointing final round. We were definitely close but just didn't finish,” said Drake head coach Matt Lewis.

Drake will have two weeks to prepare for the MVC Championship, which will take place at the Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. on April 27 and 28.
