EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Drake University women's tennis team swept Northern Iowa 5-0 on Saturday to advance to the Bulldogs' second straight Missouri Valley Conference championship match.

Drake continued its strong doubles play on Saturday as No. 3 Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.) and Tess Herder (Lee's Summit, Mo.) won 8-2 and Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.) and Adrienne Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa) recorded an 8-1 victory at No 1. to secure the doubles point.

"The girls came out with such fire for the doubles point and that momentum continued into singles,” said Drake head coach Sadhaf Pervez. “I think we have three of the best doubles teams in the conference”

The Bulldogs quickly jumped out to a 3-0 with a 6-0 6-0 win by junior Lea Kozulic (Varazdin, Croatia) at No. 6 and a 6-1, 6-2 victory by junior Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) at No. 2.

“After Lea (Kozulic) and Maddie (Johnson) gave us a 3-0 lead, all the courts were really tight and could have gone either way,” said Pervez.

Freshman Jensen clinched the win for the Bulldogs by beating UNI's Gisela Kemper 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Ante's 6-0, 6-5 win over MVC Player of the Year Eric Medlin was just icing on the cake for the Bulldogs.

“Tomorrow, we have nothing to lose and the upperclassmen have been there last year so I am expecting them to be the leaders." 

The Bulldogs will square off against No. 33 Wichita State in the MVC Championship match on Sunday at 10 a.m. The winner will receive the MVC automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA tournament.
