Rowing Travels To 2015 Lubbers Cup

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – After taking a break last weekend from its busy spring season, the Drake University rowing team returns to the water traveling to the 2015 Lubbers Cup, which will be held April 11-12 on Spring Lake in Grand Haven, Mich. The two-day regatta is celebrating its 20th anniversary and features a strong field this year of collegiate programs, led by the host college, Grand Valley State.

Drake, who had a strong showing at the Lubbers Cup one year ago, will participate in several races on Saturday (April 11) and Sunday (April 12). The Bulldogs are scheduled to have a varsity 4 and two varsity eight boats race in the morning and afternoon on Saturday before doing the same in the morning session on Sunday.

“The format of Lubbers is important for our young team,” said head coach Charlie DiSilvestro. “Racing multiple times allows us to tinker with lineups and race plans and most importantly gain valuable race experience and confidence while getting stronger. The field is tough, as always led by Grand Valley State and the other Michigan schools, and as an added bonus we will get to see another conference opponent in Robert Morris after competing against Jacksonville and Stetson earlier in the spring. This weekend is going to help us prepare for the conference championship next month.”

Results will be available at www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com and at the Lubbers informational page.

After Lubbers, Drake will have another week off from competition before returning to Michigan for the 2015 MACRA Regatta scheduled for April 25 in Ypsilanti.
