ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University men's tennis player Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) was named Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league commissioner Doug Elgin announced on Wednesday.
Salibasic, a senior from Tuzla Bosnia & Herzegovia, led Drake to the program's second NCAA Tournament victory, beating No. 32 Louisville, 4-2, on May 8. He produced a dominating performance over No. 5 Seb Stiefelmeyer, 6-1, 6-2, to give Drake a 2-1 lead. Drake and Salibasic fell to No. 4 Illinois, 4-2, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He went three sets against No. 33 Farris Gosea, but ultimately fell in a third-set tiebreaker. Salibasic holds a 4.0 GPA as a international business and finance major.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Salibasic will conclude his collegiate career at the NCAA Singles Championship in Waco, Texas, which is set to begin on Wednesday, May 20.
