LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Drake women's soccer team dropped an exhibition contest at Kansas, 5-0, on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The No. 23 ranked Jayhawks squad was just too much for an underclassmen-dominated Bulldogs lineup. KU scored all five goals in the opening half as it outshot Drake, 25-8, in the preseason contest.
“Kansas was just too much for us for where we are at right now,” said head coach Lindsey Horner. “The second half gives us a platform to grow from, but as we look forward to Minnesota, we are focusing on our team, our growth and being ready for the regular season. We started eight underclassmen tonight that saw quickly what a top-25 team is capable of and while we got punished for errors tonight, this experience will accelerate our learning.”
Freshman Tawny Carroll (Streamwood, Ill.) and seniors Alex Freeman (Duluth, Minn.) and Rhian Pritchard (Prairie Village, Kan.) led Drake with two shots each.
Drake plays at Minnesota on Aug. 15 to close the preseason. The Bulldogs welcome UMKC to the Cownie Soccer Complex on Aug. 23 to start the 2015 regular season.
