ST. LOUIS – Drake men's soccer redshirt junior Ben LeMay (Hugo, Minn.) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for his performance during the period of Sept. 14-20, MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Tuesday.
LeMay was instrumental in victories over UMKC and DePaul last week collecting one goal and two assists as Drake improved to 5-2 on the season. Against DePaul his goal was the equalizer making the score 2-2 as the Bulldogs rallied to beat the Blue Demons, 3-2. LeMay also had the assist on Drake's first goal against DePaul and had the final assist in the Bulldogs' 4-0 win over UMKC.
The Hugo, Minn., native has scored two goals and recorded two assists this season. LeMay is a pharmacy major with a 3.82 cumulative grade-point average.
To qualify for MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
Drake opens MVC action Saturday, Sept. 26 at Evansville at 6 p.m.
