DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis opened the home portion of its schedule with a pair of 4-0 victories over Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota on Friday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

In the Bulldogs' first match, Drake won the doubles point in dominating fashion over Omaha as freshman Joely Lomas and sophomore Mela Jaglarz won 6-1 at No. 3, while sophomore Summer Brills and senior Maddie Johnson secured the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 2.

Tess Herder's 6-3, 6-2 win over Kenzie Hill at No. 4 was the only match to finish in straight sets, giving Drake a 2-0 lead. Johnson looked as if she was going to cruise past Janelle Wilson after winning the first set 6-0, but Wilson took the second set 6-0 before Johnson claimed the final set 6-2 to win the match. Jaglarz won her first set 6-1 and then dropped the second set 6-4 but came back strong to secure match point for the team, winning the final set 6-2.

The final three singles matches went unfinished and were all in the third set.

The Bulldogs didn't miss a beat in their match against North Dakota as they began the dual dominating doubles with Lomas and Jaglarz winning 6-2 at No. 3 and Herder and Mariel Ante winning 6-1 at No. 1.

Lomas earned her first collegiate singles victory in her second career match, routing Aliza Deming 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. Johnson was just as dominant as Lomas, beating Mimi Yunker, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. Jaglarz once again clinched the match for Drake, winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Bulldogs' weekend isn't over as they host Iowa State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
