Cody Records A Career-High In Kills To Lead Volleyball Over Bradley, 3-1

Inderski adds a career-high 23 digs

PEORIA, Ill. – Odessa Cody (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a career-high 14 kills on 33 attempts to lead the Drake University volleyball team to a 3-1 win at Bradley on Saturday, Oct. 15, evening. The Bulldogs also benefitted from a career-high 23 digs from Kyla Inderski (Urbandale, Iowa), who added a team-high 15 kills.

Drake (12-10, 3-5 MVC) took the match by set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20. Bradley (6-13, 1-7 MVC) was led by Erica Haslag's 17 kills. Drake's setter tandem of Chandelle Davidson (Gretna, Neb.) and Paige Aspinwall (Dayton, Minn.) each recorded 21 assists.

Drake held an early 8-3 lead and later used a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 lead in the first set. The Bulldogs kept that lead for the remainder of the set to win, 25-18, behind five kills from Inderski as the Bulldogs hit .333 in the set.

The Bulldogs led early again in the second set, but Bradley drew close at 11-10 before four-straight points for Drake reestablished the lead. Later, a 3-0 Bradley spurt pulled the Braves within two points, 18-16, but Drake stretched its lead back out to six, 23-17, to take the set, 25-21.

However, Drake could not keep that momentum in the third set as Bradley's defense held the Bulldogs to just .100 hitting with eight errors to take the set, 25-19. Drake faced an eight-point, 21-13, deficit but rallied to pull within three points, 21-18, before pulling away.

Drake recovered marvelously in the fourth set, jumping out to a 8-3 lead that quickly ballooned to 15-6 on back-to-back kills from Kameo Pope (Belle Plaine, Iowa), who also added five blocks on the evening. With the score at 21-11, Drake held off a brief Bradley charge to take the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0. Four of Cody's kills came in the final set to seal the victory for the Bulldogs.

Drake returns home next weekend to host SIU and Evansville on Oct. 21 and 22, respectively, at the Knapp Center.
