Volleyball Travels To UNI For In-State Clash

The Drake University volleyball team travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Saturday, Nov. 5, for its second meeting of the season against in-state foe UNI. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the McLeod Center with the contest broadcast via The Valley On ESPN3.

Earlier this season, UNI swept the Bulldogs, 3-0, in the Knapp Center despite Drake holding the Panthers to just a .112 hitting percentage, UNI's lowest of the season in MVC action.

Drake (14-13, 5-8 MVC) makes the annual trip to UNI after handily defeating Indiana State, 3-0, on Monday evening to keep its postseason goals alive. The Bulldogs recorded 51 kills in that win, their most in a three-set match this season.

Senior Michelle Thommi led the defense in that win with 28 digs in three sets. She is now three digs away from 1,500 career digs and will become just the third Bulldog to reach that lofty total. Her 521 digs this season rank as the sixth most in a season at Drake. Thommi currently leads the MVC in total digs and ranks second in digs per set. She ranks seventh and 22nd nationally in those categories, respectively.

UNI (18-8, 9-4 MVC) sits in third-place in the MVC after falling to Missouri State, 3-1, in its last outing to snap an eight-game win streak. The Panthers also boast five wins against top-50 teams this season.

Following Saturday's match, the Bulldogs return to the Knapp Center to host Bradley and Loyola on Nov. 11 and 12, respectively.
