Caitlin Ingle (Runnells, Iowa) of the Drake University women's basketball team was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week while freshman
Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) was selected MVC Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday, Dec. 19.
Ingle helped lead Drake to an 81-76 victory over Iowa Sunday for the program's first win in the in-state series since 2001. Ingle poured in a team-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting along with handing out a game-high seven assists and pulling down three rebounds in 35 minutes. Ingle also knocked down 5-of-6 at the free throw line, her lone miss is the first of the season, and on the year, she is shooting 95.2 (21-of-22) from the line.
Ingle is averaging a MVC-best 8.4 assists per game along with scoring 11.8 points per game. This is the first career MVC Player of the Week honor for Ingle.
Hittner had her best overall game in her young career in the win over Iowa. Hittner recorded her first career-double with 14 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. She added three assists, one steal and made two key three-pointers and 6-of-6 from the free throw line in a career-high 25 minutes.
For the season, Hittner is averaging 11.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. This is the first career MVC Newcomer of the Week award for Hittner. Senior
Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.) earned MVC Player of the Week honors on Nov. 14.
Drake plays Auburn Wednesday in the Tulane Classic in New Orleans, La. Tipoff with the Tigers is scheduled for 3 p.m.
