Drake enters Friday with a 17-8 overall record and a 10-4 ledger in the Missouri Valley Conference as it looks to snap a two-game losing streak. The Ramblers hold a 13-13 overall record and a 9-6 record in MVC games.
The Bulldogs rallied from a 13-point deficit in the first matchup between the two teams on Jan. 31 in Chicago. Junior
Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.) scored a game-high 25 points, including putting eight points on the scoreboard in a game-turning 15-2 scoring run to end the second quarter, as Drake won by a final score of 81-65.
Wendell and her teammates will look to bounce back from two sub-par shooting performances during its current losing streak. Drake, the MVC's top scoring team at 79.9 points per game and shooting team at 46.7 percent from the floor, has averaged just 63.5 points in the two losses while shooting just 36.8 percent from the floor and making six total three-pointers.
Wendell continues to lead the Valley in scoring at 20.3 points per game with freshman
Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.) and sophomore
Maddy Dean (Jordan, Minn.) also in the league's top-15 leaders at 12.8 and 12.6 ppg, respectively. Also averaging double figures is junior
Caitlin Ingle (Runnells, Iowa) at 10.2 ppg as the Bulldogs are the only MVC team to have four players averaging double-digits.
Loyola is led in scoring by junior Taylor Manuel at 15.5 a game with Taylor Johnson (15.5) and Nieka Wheeler (11.1) next. Five of the top seven league leaders in field goal percentage will be on the floor Friday night with league-leader Rhine (62.2) followed by Manuel (57.6), Wheeler (54.6) and Ingle (50.5). Wendell rounds out the group in seventh with a 46.7 clip.
Following Friday's game, Drake hosts Bradley in its final regular season home contest. Prior to the 2 p.m. game, Drake athletics will host a free youth sports clinic at noon in the Shivers Basketball Practice Facility. Following the conclusion of Sunday's matinee, senior
Emma Donahue (Naperville, Ill.) will be honored for Senior Day.
