LINCOLN, Neb. – The Drake University women's tennis team split its pair of matches on Saturday at the Dillon Tennis Center, as the Bulldogs fell to host Nebraska, 4-0, before beating South Dakota, 4-0, to finish their day.
The Huskers managed to win courts one and three to earn the doubles point.
Despite losing in singles matches on courts one, four and six, the Bulldogs were ahead on courts three and five before they went unfinished. Sophomore Maddie Johnson was up a set and led in the second 2-1, while freshman Joely Lomas won the first set 6-3.
The Bulldogs ended their trip to Nebraska with a dominating victory over the Coyotes. Summer Brills and Mela Jaglarz cruised past Yuliya Sidenko and Anastasia Bondarenko, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot, while Johnson and Lomas beat Milica Pavloic and Elise van Zijst 6-2 to clinch the doubles point.
Johnson put the Bulldogs up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot. Lomas continued her strong play and defeated Bondarenko 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot as Mariel Ante clinched the match for Drake with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
The Bulldogs return to the Roger Knapp Tennis Center on Saturday, March 5 as they host Marquette and Gustavus Adolphus.
