DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake women's tennis team opened Missouri Valley Conference action with a 5-2 win over Northern Iowa on Saturday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs began the day with a dominating performance over the Upper Iowa Peacocks in the morning, winning 4-1.

Drake jumped on the Peacocks early by winning a doubles point as Summer Brills and Tess Herder cruised past Kelly Jachymowski and Anna Okolot, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot and Maddie Johnson and Joely Lomas defeated Saki Kawabata and Isabella Sella, 6-1.

Herder didn't waste any time giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead when she routed Jachymowski 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot.  Brills topped Sella 6-3, 6-2, while Lomas defeated Linn Sorman 6-0, 6-3 to clinch match point for the Bulldogs.

In the nightcap, Drake got out to another great start and once again won the doubles point. Mela Jaglarz gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead with a straight sets win over Sydney Wolfe, 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot. Herder extended Drake's lead with a dominating performance over Astrid Santos, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Brills clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win over Elvira Lopez at No. 2.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, March 30 when they host Iowa at 3 p.m.
