Caitlin Ingle (Runnells, Iowa) of the Drake University women's basketball team was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, March 8.
Ingle averaged 13.0 assists, 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in Drake's final two regular-season games and matched a career-best 15 assists in the win over Evansville. The 15 assists tied for the third-best single game total in school history, a mark that Ingle previously hit twice last season. She followed that performance against the Purple Aces with 11 points and 11 assists in the win over SIU to record her third points/assists double-double this season and the 10
th in her career.
This season, Ingle leads the MVC and ranks sixth in the nation in assists per game at 6.9. She recently passed the 500-assist mark for her career and currently has 506 assists to rank sixth all-time at Drake and 14th in Valley history. Ingle was named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week once during her sophomore campaign. Academically Ingle holds a 3.80 grade point average as a psychology major with a sociology minor.
Ingle's honor continues Drake's extensive collection of MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards. A Drake student-athlete has won the award 19 times in the 29 weeks the honor has been awarded in 2015-16 including three weeks in which the Bulldogs swept the men's and women's honors.
To qualify for MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
Drake begins play at the 2016 MVC Tournament in Moline, Ill., on Friday, March 11 at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs as the number two seed will play the winner of No. 7 Illinois State vs. No. 10 Evansville.
