BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Play was suspended on Saturday afternoon at the NYX Hoosier Invitational due to high winds as the Drake men's golf team sits in 13
th place through one round.
The day started out calm, but the winds picked up to over 20 mph with gusts over 50 mph, which resulted the event to be shortened from 54 holes to 36.
"Extremely difficult conditions with the cold temps and 50 mph gust. Drew (Ison) played well in the challenging conditions," Drake head coach Matt Lewis said. Sophomore
Drew Ison led the team with a two over par, 73 and is tied for 12
th-place after 18 holes. Freshman
Jack Kennedy shot a 77 (+6), while fellow freshman
Arjun Reddy made is spring season debut with an 80. Freshman
Tommi Avant and senior
Blake Huser each recorded an 82 to round out the Bulldogs' day.
As a team, Drake registered a score of 312 and are nine stroke behind MVC foe Evansville, who is tied for eighth place.
"We are disappointed with our team score but we know today is done and we are now focused on having a good day tomorrow,"Play will resume at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday for the final round of the NYX Hoosier Invitational.
