GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The Drake University rowing battled cold temperatures and rough water conditions on the first day of the 2016 Lubbers Cup on Spring Lake in Grand Haven, Mich.
The day started with temperatures in the 20s this morning as Drake was still able to able to compete in its three scheduled races. Rough water conditions in the afternoon caused multiple delays and the competitors resumed racing at 6:30 p.m. EST tonight.
The adjusted schedule featured only eight boat races as the remaining four boat races were cancelled. The Bulldogs' second varsity 8 boat defeated host Grand Valley State in their race while the Bulldogs' varsity 8 boat placed third in their race.
In the morning session, Drake was led by its 2V boat that defeated Purdue. The Bulldogs' 1V boat finished third in its race. Drake's lone open 4 boat placed fourth in its race.
Lubbers will conclude on Sunday morning for Drake with the 1V race starting the final session at 8:30 a.m. EST.
